"Get Smart"*

Adapted by Christopher Sergel
From the series originally created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry

Synopsis

WOULD YOU BELIEVE
that on January 7th at approximately 8:50 Eastern Standard Time, a line was delivered over a T.V. show that started the whole country using a new speech mannerism. “Get Smart” was the show and the great moment occurred when the head of KAOS, Mr. Big, apparently traps Maxwell Smart:
SMART: At this very moment there are seven Coast Guard cutters getting ready to converge on your speedboat. Would you believe it? Seven!
MR. BIG: I find that pretty hard to believe.
SMART: Would you believe six?
Maxwell Smart, Agent 86 of CONTROL, is off on a bizarre new case in which he must stop the sinister organization know as KAOS from their most shameful plot. Mr. Big and KAOS agents Garth, Mary Wong, Shirley Wong and Betsy Wong have stolen Professor Dante’s latest invention, the Inthermo, a machine that incinerates anything it is aimed at and plan on destroying the Statue of Liberty! This is too much, and Smart springs—perhaps we should say stumbles—into action. Magnificently assisted by beautiful Agent 99, Smart proceeds from one gigantic blunder to another—each, however, somehow turning into a masterstroke. This show is full of visual surprises that make the show exciting and enjoyable for the cast and audience alike. All of your favorite characters from the television show are here: Chief, the blustering head of CONTROL and Smart’s boss; Hodgkins, Chief’s assistant and CONTROL’s gadget guru; Miss Finch, Chief’s attractive secretary and Agent 44, a nervous young CONTROL recruit, along with kidnapped blondes, college students, a Scandinavian princess and travelers. This is hilarious fast-paced comedy in Two Acts has parts for ten men and seventeen women between the ages of thirteen and eighteen.
